What to check before you sign up
- The deposit must usually be external. Wealthsimple, for example, counts only deposits from an outside institution, not transfers between its own accounts.
- Holding periods. Many bonuses require you to keep the money in the account for a set period. Read the terms before you move it.
- Offers do not always stack. Questrade, for example, says its referral bonus and promotional codes cannot be combined.
